Gratitude, Connection, and What's Ahead at FCC

Yesterday at First Christian Church, we kicked off our Thanksgiving series, I Thank God, by looking at Paul's relationship with the Philippian church.

One thought from Philippians 1 is worth carrying with us throughout this week:

Gratitude sees grace without ignoring the gaps.

Paul knew the Philippians well. He knew their strengths, their weaknesses, and the areas where God was still working. Yet he could still say, "I thank my God in all my remembrance of you" (Philippians 1:3).

What a beautiful reminder that we can be grateful for what God has already done while trusting Him with what He's still doing!

Two Exciting Opportunities to Get Involved!

There's a lot to be thankful for at FCC right now, especially as more people express a desire to get involved in the life of our church.

During Vision Sunday, 14 people expressed interest in our Prayer Partner Ministry, and another 8 expressed interest in Kids Church!

Those numbers represent something much more meaningful than names on a piece of paper. They represent people who want to be part of what God is doing in and through our church family.

Over the next two Sundays, we're holding two special interest meetings:

Prayer Partner Ministry Interest Meeting

Sunday, November 8, immediately following service.

Kids Church Interest Meeting

Sunday, November 15, immediately following service.

For both meetings, grab some refreshments from the lobby and join us!

These gatherings are an opportunity to hear the vision behind each ministry, ask questions, and discover how you might be part of what we're building together.

You do NOT need to have signed up on Vision Sunday to attend!

There's no expectation that you already know where or how you'd like to serve. In fact, that's part of why we're having these meetings.

If you're curious, interested, or simply want to learn more, we'd love to have you there.

You can sign up at the desk in the back of the sanctuary on Sunday or contact Pastor Franco to express your interest.

Name Tags Are Here to Stay!

If you joined us for worship yesterday, you probably noticed something a little different.

Name tags!

And judging by the response, they were a hit!

So many people expressed their excitement about wearing them, and it was wonderful to see people using them to learn each other's names and start conversations.

We'll be continuing with name tags every Sunday through the end of the year.

But the goal is bigger than remembering names.

We don't want to simply recognize each other's faces. We want to become a church family where people genuinely know and care for one another.

So take advantage of the opportunity!

Introduce yourself to someone new. Learn the name of someone who has been sitting a few pews away for years. Strike up a conversation, ask a question, and begin building a friendship.

Sometimes deeper connection begins with something as simple as learning someone's name.

This Week's Challenge: CHOOSE ONE

As we begin our Thanksgiving series, we're putting Sunday's message into practice with one simple challenge:

CHOOSE ONE.

Think of one person in your life.

Maybe it's someone you love dearly. Maybe it's someone you've struggled to understand. Perhaps it's someone whose shortcomings have become easier to notice than the evidence of God's grace in their life.

This week, do two things.

First, identify one specific evidence of God's grace in that person's life.

Where have you seen growth, faithfulness, generosity, compassion, or change? What has God already done in them?

Name it.

Second, pray Philippians 1:9–11 over them.

Pray that their love would abound more and more. Pray for knowledge, discernment, and the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ.

Thank God for the grace you can already see, and pray over the gaps where He's still working.

This simple practice has the potential to change the way we see and relate to one another.

And perhaps the person God places on your heart is somebody sitting just a few pews away from you on Sunday morning.

I Thank My God for You

As November begins, my prayer is that God would cultivate a genuine spirit of gratitude throughout our church family.

Not because everything is perfect.

Not because we've all figured everything out.

But because Jesus is still working in us, and there is so much evidence of His grace worth celebrating.

I'm thankful for the relationships growing at FCC, for the people stepping forward to serve, and for the opportunity we have to grow together as a church family.

And just as Paul wrote to the Philippians, I want to say to our church family: I thank my God for YOU.
